Another day with the ladies at the center

Hello dear readers,

Today was my third time with the ladies.  We made flowers, lots of flowers.

This is what took about three hours to create.

.

As you know, this center is for elderly people, some of them are recuperating from strokes or orthopedic problems which handicap them. I  had to find a way of making flowers which
will be easy for them.

This is the method I thought of and it proved successful.  We stiffened a green thick embroidery thread with tacky glue.  While it dried, we punched out green paper bases.  The thread was dry before we finished punching the bases.
The stiffened thread was cut into stems.  each stem was dipped slightly into the glue and then stuck to the green base.

We perforated a styrofoam food container with a barbeque screw and placed the stems to dry
in the holes.

When dry, the stems were pushed right inside.

Now we were able to glue the flower firmly on top of each stem.

A tiny piece of yellow felt was rolled into a ball and glued to the center of each flower. (We
wanted to add color but painting with a brush was too complicated.)

When dry, and this took only a few minutes, the flower was pushed out.

I am so proud of my pupils....

Next Tuesday I'll not be able to teach.  There will be a workshop with my fellow miniaturists and we
are going to make chairs.  It will be held at Goldie's place and I hope to be able to show you her
latest works.  But there are going to be many more Tuesdays at the center.  I enjoy working
with these people more and more each time we meet.

A very warm welcome to two new followers, Florina and ToTylko.  Thank you for following.

Blessings to you all.

1/48" cottage completed

Hello all,

I finished the cottage and am rather pleased with the results.  I used material that I had no trouble finding.

Roof  is made from egg carton.

Materials I used for building this cottage.  Guess what the black drinking straw was for....
I cut the coffee stirrers in strips to decorate the exterior walls.  Cutting wood is not my
favorite job and I only have very simple tools to do it.  The window frames were
made from match sticks which were difficult to miter as the split easily.  The roof tiles were
fun.  I still need to add other shades of color to the tiles.

Next week I'll start the landscaping.  This is work I love.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and blessings.

!/48" Cottage (contd.)

Hello dear readers,

I managed to make some progress and tomorrow, if nothing interferes, I'll be working on this project only.

Door made from a large craft stick.

Front stairs with pillars.

Base

This morning I  enjoyed working with the ladies at the center.  I brought my own glue
and everything went smoothly.

Here is what they managed to produce for a start.

Not bad for novices....

Happy and satisfied, this lady is taking a photo of her work to show at home.

This lady was really good.  She will be a good miniaturist with practice.

They also learned to make flowers but there was not enough time to show results.  Maybe next
Tuesday.

A very warm welcome to Rosemarie.  Thank you for following my blog.  I tried to trace a link to
you.  If you have a blog, please let me know.

Blessings to you all

Working with the Ladies at the Day Care Center

Hello all,

Yesterday was my first day with ladies at the day care center.  They were excited and enthusiastic
waiting to see what there was to do.  I did some homework before and prepared, what I
believed  was easy for their first project.  But alas, I didn't take into account that some of the ladies
were handicapped and unable to use both hands.  The first day was not very successful.  I'll have to bring my own tacky glue next time.  The glue at the center did not work.  They promised me for the next time to buy the brand I use.  Instead of crocheting chains for a nice finish of the burlap items, we
are going to use twisted yarn pulled out of the burlap fabric itself.  Twisting is easier than crocheting.
Also I'll bring pre-cuts.  Using scissors is not easy for some of the ladies.

Here are photos of what I created for them.  It wasn't easy to find the
fabric.  I had to travel to a nearby town to buy it.  It's not even good quality, the weave is
too thin.  Except for the flowers, it took less than two hours to produce these four pieces.
With a colored pillow the chair will look nicer.

The table is a plastic pizza separator on which I glued a twisted yarn from the
burlap fabric.  Both chair and basket in the photos have a crochet yarn chain  finish.

Today I made some experiments with twisting the yarn.  I'll make a tutorial to share with
you soon.

A very warm welcome to Kitty and Kat.  Thank you for following my blog.

Blessings to all my dear readers.

Cashbox 1/48" cottage

Hello dear readers,

The 1/48" cottage is beginning to get shape.  This is what I managed to do already

Door, windows and pillars are just for demonstration but you can get an idea of how the front will look.  I have to decide what color to paint the door and windows.

.

Indoors with no ceiling.

For the doorway "curved wooden pillars" I painted plastic cocktail forks' handles.

This all for now.

My work with at the elderly ladies at the center starts tomorrow morning.  Wish us luck.

Blessings to all

A Gift for a Little Girl

Hello all,

I buy and keep ready a small stock of inexpensive gifts for little visitors.  A few months ago I bought a few wooden cash boxes (made in china). They were on sale for less than a dollar.  One fell down and broke.  Looking at the pieces I saw possibilities which lead to a new project.

In my gifts stock there are wooden children's room plaques which we paint together and put on the name of the child who receives it.  These too are very inexpensive.  I sometimes use them as wood material because they're thin and easy to cut.

And you don't have to guess,  I's going to be, by trial and error, a small cottage.

Will show you more as I go along.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend and blessings
